چکیده
Bacteriocins, are large and functionally d iverse family o f antimicrobials found in all major lineages of bacteria. Recent studies reveal that these proteinaceous toxins play a significant role in mediating competitive dynamics between bacterial strains and closely related species. The capability of bacteria to effectively outcompete undesired species is often due to, or enhanced by, the production of potent antimicrobial toxins. In this review potential uses of bacteriocins and bacteriocin-producings strains as probiotics, in gastrointestinal tract infection, systemic infection, oral and respiratory tract infection, as anti-neoplastic agent as well as spermicidal and contraceptive agent has been addressed.

Beneficial effects of probiotic microorganisms. A review
The aim of the present study was to describe the beneficial health effects of probiotic bacteria, manifested by inhibition of growth of pathogen microorganism strains and that of their colonization of the gastrointestinal tract of humans. The primordial mode of action by which a probiotic eradicates a pathogen can be facilitated by the production of antimicrobial substances such as bacteriocins...
متن کاملIs there a role for lactobacilli in prevention of urogenital and intestinal infections?
This review describes the importance of microbial adhesion in the ecology of the urogenital and intestinal tracts and the influence of host and microbial factors in bacterial interference. In a recent revival of interest in bacterial interference, lactobacillus administration has been studied as a means of treating and preventing disease. Although evidence is conflicting, Lactobacillus acidophi...
متن کاملThe Inhibitory Effect of Genus Lactobacillus on Helicobacter Pylori Infection
The triple treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection with two antibiotics and PPI has been shown to be the best way to eradicate this bactirium. In the last years the antibiotic resistance is increasing. Metaanalyses on the effects of probiotics on the gastrointestinal diseases have shown positive effects on the prevention and treatment of these disease. Various studies support thе hypothesis ...
متن کاملBacteriocins from lactic acid bacteria: production, purification, and food applications.
In fermented foods, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) display numerous antimicrobial activities. This is mainly due to the production of organic acids, but also of other compounds, such as bacteriocins and antifungal peptides. Several bacteriocins with industrial potential have been purified and characterized. The kinetics of bacteriocin production by LAB in relation to process factors have been studi...

Probiotics, because of their role in the maintenance of normal gastrointestinal flora, can facilitate human resistance to opportunistic infection and positively impact the outcome in a variety of clinical situations. Probiotics have been used successfully to facilitate treatment of bacterial vaginosis, recurrent urinary tract infections, diarrhea, bladder cancer, complications of antibiotic the...
